About Me
I am a digital artist. My primary medium is photography. In addition to post-processing my photographs, I use a digital pen to draw on them, creating photo-paintings. My photographs and photo-paintings encourage a different way of seeing by blending the familiar with the unfamiliar, prompting reflection and mindfulness. For me, being mindful and reflective can lead to careful consideration of the often-detrimental impact of human actions on their surroundings and relationships, and ultimately to actions that enhance wellbeing for all: humans, animals, plants and the Earth. My art is inspired and informed by the insights I have gained as an academic. Through my research and engagement with students and colleagues, I have come to appreciate that we humans are part of nature, not separate from it, and that striving for a better life for all means overcoming Western dichotomous thinking with its emphasis on “either/or” and instead embracing the “and”. For me, that means I can be both an artist and an academic, and that my creativity emerges and thrives in this harmonious unity.
